Honor the creativity and enduring legacy of Shel Silverstein (1930–1999), the imaginative author, illustrator, poet, songwriter, and playwright beloved by generations of readers. The stamp features Silverstein’s illustration of a young boy reaching to catch a red apple, an image adapted from the cover of his classic 1964 children’s book The Giving Tree. The boy wears an olive-green shirt and red shorts against a vivid green background. The story’s themes of friendship, generosity, and selflessness, together with Silverstein’s simple black-and-white drawings, have made it a landmark of children’s literature. Derry Noyes designed the stamp. Issued in 2022 in panes of 20, this Forever stamp is always equal in value to the current First-Class Mail one-ounce rate.
